Rewind Technique in Lowestoft and Online
The Rewind Technique is a structured therapeutic technique that can be used when someone is experiencing distress connected with a traumatic or frightening experience.
One feature of Rewind is that you do not necessarily have to describe the traumatic experience to me in detail for us to use the technique.
I offer Rewind within my wider integrative counselling practice, where it is appropriate to what you are experiencing and what you would like from therapy.
What is the Rewind Technique?
Rewind uses relaxation and guided imagery in a structured process.
Rather than repeatedly describing a difficult experience in detail, you are guided through a particular mental process involving remembering and imagining the experience in different ways.
The process is carried out with your involvement and at a pace that takes account of how you are responding.
What might a Rewind session involve?
Before using Rewind, we would spend time talking about what has brought you to counselling and whether this particular way of working is something we should consider.
I would explain the process before we begin, so you have an opportunity to understand what we will be doing and ask questions.
An important distinction from ordinary talking therapy is that you do not necessarily need to tell me all the details of the experience for us to work with Rewind.
A brief therapeutic intervention
Rewind is designed as a brief intervention and may only require one session. For a single traumatic experience, it would not normally be expected to involve a long course of Rewind sessions.
We can review together whether it has been helpful and whether further Rewind work, counselling or another approach would be appropriate.
Rewind within Integrative Counselling
Rewind does not have to be separate from the rest of our counselling work.
Because my counselling philosophy is integrative, we can consider whether Rewind might form one part of our work together rather than assuming that one technique needs to address everything you are experiencing.
There may also be situations where another way of working, including counselling or EMDR, is something we discuss instead.

Is Rewind something I should consider?
You do not need to decide this before contacting me.
If you are interested in Rewind, we can talk about what you are experiencing, what you would like help with and whether Rewind is something it would be appropriate for us to consider.
There is no assumption that everyone who has experienced something traumatic needs the same type of therapy.
